How to Accessorize a Black Dress in an Edgy Way

No woman’s wardrobe is complete without a classic black dress. The black dress is a fashion blank canvas, capable of portraying numerous styles with elegance and class. Women who want to showcase an edgy style can spice up their black dress with various accessories that incorporate tasteful leathers, chains, studs and other items.

• High-heel shoes with stud or chain accents
• Chain or studded jewelry
• Wide studded, buckled or metallic belt or underbust corset
• Leather or satin purse or bag

Instructions

1. Wear a pair of high-heel shoes adorned with studs or chains. Silver or chrome studs or chains add texture and shine to an otherwise plain heel. If you want to draw attention specifically to your shoes, go for a heel in a bright color. Red, dark purple, dark green or metallic shoes make a bold statement and add interest to a primarily dark outfit.

2. Put on a few tasteful pieces of jewelry. Bangle or cuff bracelets adorned with metallic patterns such as chain or plate metal are perfect for casting an edgy vibe. Wear a cuff bracelet made of black lace for a modern and romantic feel. For more of quirky edge, go for a chain armband.

3. Wear a wide studded, buckled or metallic belt. Belts don’t always have to go around your hips. Many women wear a belt just under the chest at the smallest part of their waist. That look hides stubborn stomach bulges by drawing attention away from the middle of the stomach. You could wear an underbust corset instead of a belt.

4. Carry a purse or bag that demonstrates your style. Leather or satin bags are fashionable and add a bit of shine and often texture to the outfit. Choose a bag that incorporates the styles you used in your other accessories. If, for example, you incorporated chains into your shoes and jewelry, consider a bag that is decorated with chains. If you chose black shoes, consider a brightly colored bag to add a bit of color to your outfit.

Tips & Warnings

• If you want to wear colored shoes and carry a colored bag, use colors that either match or are complementary. The colors shouldn't clash.

• Don’t go overboard with accessories. Too many studs or chains will look tacky. Use pieces in which the edgy styles are accents, adding dimension to your outfit without overtaking it.
