"Backyard Monsters" has more than 15 million active players, as of August 2010.

In the Facebook social game "Backyard Monsters," shiny is the in-game currency players use to purchase workers and extra resources, as well as speed up construction on buildings. One of the easiest ways to obtain shiny is by picking golden mushrooms. Ordinary mushrooms grow in groups around the player's backyard and golden mushrooms spawn within these groups. Each golden mushroom is worth three or eight shiny, and groups of mushrooms start re-spawning within 24 hours after harvesting.

Instructions

    • 1

Look on the grass in the wide-open spaces of your backyard. The mushrooms are red with white spots and white bases.

    • 2

Search behind any tall or large buildings on your plot of land; mushrooms may be hidden behind them.

    • 3

Click the green "-" button to zoom out as far as possible, then look for mushrooms on the borders of your plot.

    • 4

Place a Yard Planner building in your backyard. This building gives you access to the planner's map, which is in 2-D and maps all the mushrooms in the area. Mouse over the dark gray squares labeled "Mushroom," then head to that area on the map.

    • 5

Click a group of mushrooms and select "Pick" from the menu to harvest them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Harvesting mushrooms outside of your construction zone often yields more shiny.
