Sending an eBook to a Kindle in an Email

All versions of the Amazon Kindle support emailed e-books.

The Amazon Kindle enables users to carrying hundreds of books with them at once, as well as download new ones wirelessly. One feature included with the Kindle is the Kindle Email, an address assigned to every new Kindle, which allows users to send documents and e-books through email to their device. The Kindle email allows PDF, MOBI and AZM e-book files. However, users may only send e-books without digital rights management or DRM. A fee of 15 cents is charged for each file received within the U.S., 99 cents for files received outside of the country at the time of publication.

Instructions

1. Find your Amazon Kindle email address by clicking "Your Account" on amazon.com. Click "Manage Your Kindle" and sign in. Click "Manage your Devices." Your Kindle email is listed under "Kindle Email Address."

2. Click "Personal Document Settings" and add the sender's email to your "Approved Personal Document Email List" by clicking "Add a new approved e-mail address." Enter an address and click "add address."

3. Open your email service of choice and create a new message. Use your Kindle's email as the recipient. Attach a MOBI, PDF or AZW file that is not protected with digital rights management security. Click "Send."

4. Turn on your Kindle, press "Menu" and then "turn wireless on" if you are not already connected to a wireless or 3G network.

5. Press "Home," then "Menu" and select "Sync & Check for items" to begin downloading the emailed e-book.

6. Click "Pending Deliveries" on the Manage Your Kindle page on Amazon's website to check the status of the file's delivery. Amazon states that files smaller than 5MB are typically delivered within five minutes, while files larger than 5MB may take longer.
