How to Stop Vanguard Crashes in Vista

1. Turn off your router or unplug the router if you can't find an on/off switch.

2. Turn the router back on after 15 seconds. This resets the router’s configuration, ensuring it's not to blame for the "Vanguard" connection issue. If the problem persists, a firewall issue may be hindering the connection.

3. Click on the Windows orb and click “Control Panel.” The Vista Control Panel appears in a new window.

4. Click “System and Security.”

5. Click “Windows Firewall,” and then click the “Turn Windows Firewall on or off” option.”

6. Enter your administrator password and click “Off” to deactivate the firewall. An overzealous firewall can block ports and cause "Vanguard" crashes.

Driver Software Troubleshooting

1. Visit Microsoft's website, and click to expand the "Downloads" heading.

2. Click "Download Center."

3. Type "DirectX March 2009" into the blank field at the top of the "Download Center" page.
