How to Cut New Carpet for a Bedroom Closet
The process for cutting carpet is the same regardless of whether you are carpeting a walk-in closet or a home theater. You must measure the area in which you wish to lay the carpet, then cut the carpet down to fit. The only difference is that you will have to do much less cutting when installing carpet in a smaller area than if you were installing carpet in a larger area. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the length and width of the closet with your measuring tape. Note the dimensions on a sheet of paper. For irregularly shaped carpets, divide the closet space into easily measured shapes -- rectangles, squares or triangles -- and measure those individually, then add the individual areas to get the total floor area of the closet.
-
2
Unroll the carpet and turn it over so the carpet side faces down.
-
-
3
Mark out the dimensions you determined in step 1 on the back of the carpet.
-
4
Place a straightedge up against the cutting line you drew in step 3. This will act as a guide for your knife when you start cutting.
-
5
Cut the carpet with your knife along the lines you marked in step 3.
