How to Fix Holes in Wood Tables

Save

Holes in wood tables can upset a glass or give the table an unfinished look. However, they are also easily repaired. Patch a wood table with the proper filler and it will look as good as new. These fillers don't cover just the surface of the wood; they are worked right into the hole so the hole is reinforced and the untrained eye can't tell a hole ever existed. Treat the table as usual with stain or paint to get a smooth, consistent surface.

Things You'll Need

  • Wood filler
  • Putty knife
  • Sandpaper
  • Scoop out some wood filler onto a small, metal putty knife.

  • Push the wood filler into the table hole to fill it.

  • Smooth the filler surface, using the flat of the putty knife. Allow the wood filler to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Sand the surface of the wood filler to get a smooth finish using 100-grit sandpaper. Work with the wood's grain. Apply paint or stain as planned.
