Instructions

    • 1

Blacken the windows with black spray foam to give your home the "dark club" vibe. Replace light bulbs in lamps and wall and ceiling light fixtures with colored bulbs to further set the mood.

    • 2

Remove the majority of the furniture in one or two of the main rooms you will be using for the party. Set all couches, benches and chairs along the sides of the rooms, though you can also create a "VIP" area in one corner of one room by arranging couches, large throw pillows and chairs in a circle or semi-circle. If your home features hardwood floors, remove all area rugs to create a "dance floor" in your designated party rooms. If your house features carpeting, put down a portable dance floor in one or two rooms.

    • 3

Set up your dining room or kitchen as your nightclub's "bar." Drape a tablecloth over a long, thin table as your bar and set up another table for hard liquor and red wine. Keep beer, white wine and any liquor that requires refrigeration in large coolers and your refrigerator. You can also make a sign that reads "Bar This Way" with an arrow in your dance floor area if desired, or hang a metallic curtain between the bar and the kitchen or rest of the kitchen, depending on where you set up your bar.

    • 4

Hang a disco ball from the center ceiling area of your designated dance floor. Remove all wall decor that does not match your "club" atmosphere and replace them with framed art or posters that reflect the club vibe you are going for. Make a unisex restroom sign to hang on your bathroom(s).

    • 5

Set up a DJ section in one corner of the dance floor -- it can be as simple as playing music from a computer or iPod, or as ornate as an actual DJ table or booth -- and hire a friend or real DJ to spin dance music all night long.

Tips & Warnings

  • Provide glow sticks and other glow-in-the-dark props and jewelry as party favors for guests to use while dancing.

  • Use black lights and candles as additional lighting options.

  • Display bunches of balloons around the ceiling of the "dance floor" as another decor option.

  • Inflatable chairs are another seating option.

  • Rent a fog or bubble machine, or purchase an ice luge for guests to take shots with at your "bar."
