Convey your sales, customer service and professional abilities on your resume.

Your resume is a summary of your goals, your achievements and what you have to offer to a prospective employer. This document is one of the main tools a prospective employer uses to determine which applicants to interview. You must set yourself apart from the rest of the applicants by conveying that your inside sales experience will help the organization achieve its goals.

Instructions

    • 1

Conduct a professional inventory of yourself. To create this inventory, write down your general job description, all of your professional achievements during your time as an inside sales professional and collect any positive performance reviews. Work Source affirms that you should include achievements that you were proud of; include situations where you went above and beyond the organization's expectations and try to quantify your achievements. If you had a quota, write down that quota and how many times you met or exceeded that quota. To determine additional duties, think about what you had to accomplish in a given day, week and month during your inside sales job.

Review a job description for a job similar to your inside sales position. If you sold insurance, find a job description for an inside insurance sales professional and review the requirements. After reviewing that job description, if you feel that you left anything out of your inventory, be sure to include any additional duties, responsibilities or achievements. The following is an excerpt from Sample Job Descriptions describing the duties and responsibilities for an inside sales job:
      "Outbound and inbound account management."
"Supporting the reseller communication channel throughout the sales interval."
"Attending sales group meetings concerning sales targets or forecasts, reporting on market situation."
"Handling cancellations or changes in sales order and communicating the changes with the related departments."
You can use the duties and responsibilities of a similar job description to assist you in remembering your duties and responsibilities, but do not copy a job description verbatim. You must always use your own words in your resume.

Use your inventory to write the work experience portion of your resume. Write your accomplishments, duties and responsibilities in order from most significant to least significant. The most significant accomplishments are those that had the most positive impact on the organization as a whole. Did you receive any rewards or recognition? For example, your first statement under this job may be: "Exceeded a $20,000 per month quota in all months of employment. During 24 months of employment, monthly sales led to the generation of over $600,000 in revenue for the organization." An example of a less significant accomplishment would be that you: "Achieved a 100 percent customer satisfaction rating, with no product returns on individual sales."

Include at least one testimonial, if possible. A testimonial is a statement from a manager or supervisor from your inside sales job that attest to your skills, achievements or professionalism. You can obtain this statement from a positive performance review or, if you are still on good terms with your previous supervisor, you can contact her and ask for a testimonial. Include your testimonial in quotations underneath of your description for this job. After the testimonial, write the name of the person who gave the testimonial and her title.

Place your inside sales job onto your resume. You should place your work experience chronologically, from your most recent job to the oldest position. University of New Hampshire suggests that a resume include your name and contact information, career objective, skills and accomplishments, education, activities and interests and references. Generally, your name and contact information top the page and your objective statement is the first section of your resume. Underneath of your objective, place your education, followed by your work experience. Underneath of your work experience, place your skills and accomplishment, activities and interests and references. The placement of these sections may vary depending on the resume format you choose to follow.
