An email tagline, typically called a signature, is an optional feature offered by many email providers, including Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail. When this feature is enabled, a small block of text is automatically added at the end of every outgoing email message. Although the method of manually removing an email tagline from individual messages is generally the same no matter which email service you use, the method of automatically removing a tagline from all outgoing messages varies by email service.

Instructions

  1. Manually in All Email Services

      Navigate to your email account.

      Click the "Compose Mail," "Compose Message" or "Write Message" button.

      Locate the tagline on the screen.

    • 4

      Highlight the tagline and press "Delete" on your keyboard.

    Automatically in Gmail

      Navigate to your Gmail account.

      Click the gear icon at the top of the page, then click "Mail Settings" on the drop-down menu.

      Scroll down the "General" tab to the Signature section.

      Click the radio button next to the "No Signature" option.

      Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Save Changes" button.

    Automatically in Windows Live Hotmail

      Navigate to your Windows Live Hotmail account.

      Click the "Options" link at the top of the page, then click "More Options" on the drop-down menu.

      Click the "Message Font and Signature" link under the Writing Email section.

      Locate the tagline on the screen.

      Highlight the tagline and press "Delete" on your keyboard.

      Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Save" button.

    Automatically in Yahoo! Mail

      Navigate to your Yahoo! Mail account.

      Click the "Options" link at the top of the page, then click "More Options" on the drop-down menu.

      Click the "Signature" tab in the pane on the left.

      Click the radio button next to the "Do Not Use a Signature" option.

      Click the "Save Changes" button above the Signature screen.
