1
Measure the fabric that you want to use for the gift bag with a ruler or tape measure. Make a note of the measurements, such as 12 inches by 20 inches, on a piece of paper.
-
2
Cut two pieces of fabric to the measurement in Step 1 with the scissors. Set the two cut pieces of fabric side-by-side on a table or desk.
-
-
3
Determine which piece of fabric to use for the lining of your gift bag. Cut this piece in half to make two pieces that measure 10 inches.
-
4
Measure and cut two 12-inch lengths of cord. Place the cut pieces of cord near the piece of fabric to use for the outside of the gift bag.
-
5
Measure 4 inches from each edge one side of the fabric. Secure the cord with pins and attach it with the needle and thread. Repeat this step on the opposite side of the fabric.
-
6
Place one of the pieces for the lining on top of the outside fabric. Position the fabric over the side with the cord. Pin the fabric in place and then stitch it together. Repeat this step with the remaining piece of lining on the opposite side.
-
7
Fold the edges of the connected fabric together and pin the edges in place. Stitch the edges of the fabric together.
-
8
Stitch along the edge of one side. Repeat this step on the opposite side but leave a gap 2-inch gap. Pull the fabric inside out, through the gap. Stitch the gap closed.
-
9
Push the lining fabric inside to use the bag. Pull the lining fabric out and push the outside fabric for the reversible bag.
