How to Make a Facebook Profile Page More Interesting

Express yourself effectively on your Facebook page, creating interest in your profile and life. Social networking sites are a new way people keep in touch or even make friends, making your Facebook profile an important representation of you. Your profile gives people an impression of who you are, without people meeting or interacting with you real-time. Due to the lack of interaction, you do not get to see first-hand how people react to your profile and whether they find it boring or fascinating. Take a proactive approach to actively make your profile interesting, removing the guesswork.

Instructions

1. Upload a professional head shot or your best photo for your profile picture. Do not include other people or animals in your Facebook picture unless you are making some kind of announcement. You can post pictures of yourself and everyone else in your Facebook albums or wall. Your profile picture, however, should reflect you.

2. Fill out as much of your profile as you are comfortable with. Update your profile regularly so that the information is current. The more you share, the more interesting your profile should be. Of course, avoid sharing information you don't want the whole world to know.

3. Make lots of friends and consider your friends your main audience, catering your profile to this audience. Ask for friends by looking up previous classmates, relatives and friends. More friends means a bigger audience, broadening the interests of your audience. Your friends also contribute to the content on your profile because other people can see your friends and look through your list to find mutual friends. Avoid mixing business and pleasure. If you need a professional profile, make a separate one for business colleagues and tailor that profile to professional interests.

4. Post useful and interesting information on your profile. Avoid information that nobody cares about or is unimportant. Think about who you are and what you are interested in. If you have a great sense of humor, post jokes. If you are known to always wear a smile and motivate others, post inspirational quotes. Express yourself in a meaningful way.

5. Post status updates. Make your status update interesting. Before posting an update, ask yourself if anyone will find what you have to say to be interesting and unique. No one cares what you had for dinner, unless it was something highly unusual (like zebra or snake). It is better not to post an update than to post something that is boring or something uninteresting.

6. Upload pictures and videos. Let people see what you are up to through visual images. Upload interesting content or content that expresses you. A fresh batch of poor quality head shots you took of yourself while you were up late one night is not interesting. Instead, post pictures or video of vacations, accomplishments (college graduation), family get-togethers and other events.

7. Block applications. Your wall will quickly become cluttered with what someone else won on Farmville if you do not block these applications. Keep your profile neat, organized and about you.
