Removing Links in Stainless Steel Watches

Stainless steel watches can be simple or ornate. Regardless of their appearance or cost, a stainless steel watch may be too large for your wrist. Rather than putting it in a drawer, buying a smaller wristband or visiting a jeweler, you can simply remove some links to make it fit. This can be done with the tools available in a wristwatch repair kit or by using some familiar items found around the house. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the stainless steel watch around your wrist to get an idea of how many links you need to remove to make the watch fit.

    • 2

Unclasp the watch and look on the inside of the band for an arrow engraved in one of the links near the timepiece itself. This will tell you from which side to push the pin out of the links.

    • 3

Straighten part of a paper clip and grasp the paper clip with pliers.

    • 4

Using the paper clip, push the pin out of one link in the same direction the arrow is pointing. Remove more links, if necessary, then clasp the watch around your wrist to see if it properly fits. If not, remove more links.

    • 5

Connect the remaining links back together with one of the pins, once the stainless steel watch fits comfortably, to finish resizing the band.
