Sewing Your Own Footie Pajamas

Sewing Your Own Footie Pajamas thumbnail
People have worn pajamas since the 1600s.

Homemade footie pajamas are a cost-effective way to keep your feet warm. Footie pajamas are constructed with little hassle using ankle high socks with strong elasticity. Using slippers to sew into your pant legs should be avoided, as this makes a pajama piece that may be unsafe in the washer or dryer. Employing a strong stitch pattern is the key to effectively attaching a "footie" portion onto the bottom of your “jammies.” You can create footie pajamas as a craft activity for the entire family.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a clean pair of cotton ankle socks with strong elasticity. Choose socks that match the color of your pajama pants. Dye your socks the color of the pajamas, if necessary, before moving on.

    • 2

Put on the pants and socks. Draw a pencil line, or ask an assistant to draw a line, when the hem line of each leg meets the sock. Take off the pants and socks.

    • 3

Fit one sock into its respective leg. Adjust the sock so the front is facing the correct direction. Bond the sock into the leg at the pencil line with fabric glue. Repeat this step with the second sock and remaining pant leg. Allow one hour for the glue to dry.

    • 4

Sew the top rim of the first sock into its respective leg using a cross stitch pattern. Repeat this process for the second sock and pant leg.
