An obvious knowledge of current events, politics and education is invaluable during pageant interviews. Many times judges ask pageant contestants a series of current event questions, and knowing what is going on in the world and having a clear stand on current events and issues shows you pay attention to what is important. However, pageant interviews are not all about what you know; you also have to present yourself in a professional, confident and interesting manner. This is done by dressing appropriately, using good posture and exuding an air of confidence that is easier to feel when you are dressed the part.

1. Wear a suit for your pageant interview. Nothing makes you appear more professional and appropriately dressed than a business suit--pant suits and skirt suits are both acceptable.

2. Tailor your suit so that it fits perfectly to show off your professionalism. Nothing makes you look as sloppy as ill-fitting clothing.

3. Choose appropriate hem lines. Do not choose a skirt suit with a short skirt; find a skirt with a hemline slightly below, at or just above the knee. Do not choose a shirt to wear under your jacket that is too low-cut and revealing.

4. Wear simple jewelry. A simple chain or strand of pearls and stud earrings, as well as a watch, are always appropriate.

5. Wear shoes with closed toes, closed heels and high heels.

6. Refrain from wearing anything too trendy. Loud designs and colors make the judges notice your clothing more than you, which is why you should choose something in a classic, muted color or a pretty, feminine color that does not overwhelm you.
