How to Decoupage a Lampshade With Photos

Jazz up a lampshade by using decoupage to apply photos to the outside surface. This is also a way to display photos from a particular event. For example, cover a lampshade with pictures from a camping trip, or a friend's wedding. Pair the lampshade with a wooden lamp and place it in a den or living room. You could also cover a lampshade with pictures that fit the theme of the room. For example, apply pictures of fruit and vegetables onto a lampshade that goes in a kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the photos on a flat surface with the picture side facing down. Roll each picture loosely, and release the picture -- it will unroll with a slight curl. The curl makes it easier for it to lay against the lampshade.

    • 2

Wipe the lampshade off with a dust cloth to remove dust, hair and dirt. If you use a new lampshade, do not remove the plastic until right before you start the project.

    • 3

Apply paint decoupage solution over the lampshade with the sponge paintbrush. Press the back of a photo onto the decoupage solution. Spread one layer of decoupage solution over the photo. Because photos are thicker, you might need to hold the photo in place for a few seconds. Repeat with all of the pictures, and wait 24 hours for the glue to dry. Arrange the photos any way you want. For example, place the photos at various angles on the lampshade. You could also overlap the edges of the photos.

Spread another layer of decoupage over the photos. Let it dry for one day before you use the lampshade.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make you own decoupage solution by mixing two parts white craft glue with one part water.
