An Internet Web ring is a collection of Web pages linked together by a common theme, such as photography or cats. Pages in the ring have links to the next and previous sites in the ring, so users can visit a number of Web pages on the ring's topic. Join a Web ring by adding your page to the collection.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

Visit the WebRing Directory (dir.webring.com/rw). This Web site maintains an exhaustive directory of more than 80,000 rings, sorted both by category and alphabetically.

  2. Step 2

Click on the category that best fits your page's category description.

  3. Step 3

Scroll down the page, reading the descriptions of each Web ring. Choose a Web ring that best fits your page and interests.

  4. Step 4

Visit the ring's page by clicking on the Home link.

  5. Step 5

Follow the directions for submitting your page to the ring. Each ring has its own requirements and submission process.

  6. Step 6

When you have received permission to join the ring, you will be asked to place a piece of HTML code on your Web page to identify the ring and invite users to check out other pages on the ring.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you see a Web ring graphic on the bottom of a page and are interested in joining, click on the title or Home link to see the ring's home page.
  • Make sure the ring code is placed on your Web page where visitors can see it.
  • If you have any questions about whether your Web page belongs on the Web ring, feel free to e-mail the owner of the ring (listed on the ring's main page). He or she will be happy to answer your questions or direct you to another ring.
  • Be mindful of the content of your page when joining a Web ring. Check with the owner of the ring first before changing the page the ring notice appears on. Many rings have strict requirements about the content and type of links that can appear in the Web ring.

on 11/17/2008 I had a geocities site several years ago that got a surprising amount of traffic from a webring. Make sure to check a webring's stats to maximize potential visitors--some rings are a waste of effort. I have a cafepress site MAD-SHIRTS.COM which redirects to cafepress.com/madnesstshirts and I'm wondering if I can join a webring. I suppose I could try inserting the necessary html into the footer and see what happens. Does anyone know?
