How to Get a Bad Odor From the Sink

Get bad odors out of the sink with baking soda and vinegar.

Bad odors in your sink areas are a common problem, caused by bacteria that grows within the pipe walls of the sink drain. Food gets rinsed down the drain and mold can grow quickly in these dark, moist areas, which makes it important to regularly clean and deodorize the sink. Avoid the expensive commercial drain cleaners and deodorize with two low-cost items from your kitchen pantry.

Things You'll Need

• Baking soda
• White vinegar

Instructions

1. Pour 1 cup baking soda into the drain for cleaning and deodorizing qualities.

2. Pour 1 cup white vinegar into the drain after the baking soda; the vinegar instantly reacts to create a foaming action that will work down the pipes to deodorize and clean. Let the foam work for one hour.

3. Rinse hot water from the faucet down the drain for about 10 seconds to wash away any leftover residue.
