How to Make a Steampunk Pendant

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, inspired by the works of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells and the technology of the Victorian era. Steampunk fashion is influenced by the Victorian culture as well, utilizing top hats, waistcoats, petticoats and bustles combined with cogs and gears. You can create a Steampunk pendant to wear as an accessory for a Steampunk costume or as a unique piece of jewelry.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your work space. Place old newspapers down where you will be working and arrange the locket and the watch parts and gears in front of you.

    • 2

Experiment with the watch gears and parts, layering them and piecing them together to see what look you like the best. Place a smaller gear on top of a larger gear, off-centering the smaller gear slightly to create a classic Steampunk look.

    • 3

Glue the watch parts and gears onto the front of the locket. Let the glue dry completely.

    • 4

Spray the pendant with metallic spray paint; Steampunk jewelry is commonly an antique bronze color, but you can use any metallic color you want, such as silver or gold. You can spray the necklace chain using the same color if desired. Let the paint dry completely.

Put a black and white photo inside the locket if you so desire; Victorian women often kept the portraits of loved ones inside locket pendants.
