1
Lay out the piece of metal you will be using as the insulating panel. Set it on a flat surface with the inside facing up. This is the side where the insulation will be installed. Lay out the second panel right next to it with the inside facing up.

2
Clean off both panels where the insulation will be installed with a clean rag. Wipe down the entire surface with the rag and add dish soap and water to the rag, if necessary to remove all visible dirt and debris from the surface.

3
Slide a tube of silicone sealant into a caulk gun. Cut off the tip of the sealant with a utility knife at a 45 degree angle. Squirt a thin 1/8-inch bead around the outside of the metal panel. Move from one corner back to the beginning and repeat the process for the other metal panel.
-
4
Roll out R-13 insulation and cut it to size with a utility knife so it is the same size as the metal panel. Measure the cut piece and verify it is the same size as the metal panel you will be installing it in.
-
5
Set the R-13 insulation in onto either one of the metal panels. Press it in firmly so it can adhere to the silicone sealant underneath. Set the other metal panel directly on top of the insulation and press it down firmly so it can adhere in place. Let the panel dry for one hour before installation.
