How to Make Newborn Baby Doll Diapers
Little girls love to imitate their mommies by feeding and changing their baby dolls as if they were real babies. Baby dolls come with cheap plastic diapers that often rip the first time they are used, making it impossible to use them again. Save money and create durable fabric diapers that will last through hundreds of diaper changes. They make simple, affordable Christmas and birthday gifts and can be made in the color and fabric of your choice.
Things You'll Need
- Soft flannel fabric
- Lining fabric
- Pattern
- Marker
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Newborn baby doll
- 2 sets of Velcro
Instructions

1
Fold the piece of soft flannel in half and trace the pattern onto the fabric. Cut the pattern out. Repeat for the lining, resulting in two pieces of fabric that are the same size and shape.
-
2
Unfold both pieces of fabric and line them up with their right sides together. Sew the two pieces together, leaving an opening along the straight edge big enough to turn the diaper right side out. Trim around the edges of the diaper to give it an even shape.

3
Turn the diaper right side out, using the opening left after stitching. Sew the opening closed. The diaper should now have the right sides of the diaper fabric and lining visible.
-
4
Place the diaper on the newborn baby doll to see where the Velcro should be placed. Mark the spot with a pencil or marker. Place the diaper on a flat surface as if you are getting ready to put the diaper on the doll.
-
5
Place the two soft pieces of Velcro on the inner back corners of the diaper on the lining, using the markings you created. Sew the Velcro pieces in place. Place the two sticky pieces of Velcro on the outer front corners of the diaper, on the patterned side, and sew them into place.

Tips & Warnings
Use two different fabrics or colors for the outside and lining of the diaper to make it easier for the child to learn how to put the diaper on the doll. Try using a pattern for the outside and a plain white fabric for the lining.
If the diaper ends up being too big or small for a particular doll, adjust the pattern for the next diaper you sew.
