How to Erase Duplicate Songs From iTunes

How to Erase Duplicate Songs From iTunes thumbnail
Duplicate songs can be easily erased from your iTunes library.

Apple’s iTunes supports playing music, podcasts and videos, and you can also use it to create playlists. You can purchase music from the iTunes store and use iTunes to sync music and other content to an iPod. Your iTunes song list may contain duplicate songs if you’ve downloaded a song from iTunes more than once or opened an MP3 file in iTunes more than once. These duplicates are easy to find and erase, and doing so helps free up space on your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

      Launch iTunes on your computer.

    • 2

Click "File" on the menu bar at the top of the iTunes screen. Select the "Show Exact Duplicates" option from the drop-down menu.

    • 3

Click the “Date Added” column header to sort and display your songs by date. Select the older duplicate songs by clicking on the first old duplicate. Press the "Shift" key on your keyboard and click the last old duplicate song to select all of the old duplicate songs.

    • 4

Click "Edit" on the iTunes toolbar and select the "Delete" option. Click "OK" to confirm that you want to delete the duplicate songs.
