Jailbreaking your iPod Touch is legal but voids your warranty.

"Jailbreaking" is a process that unlocks your iPod touch from iTunes, allowing you to install third-party software from the Cydia application store. An iPod Touch running version 4.0 of the iOS operating system can be jailbroken safely using the online JailbreakMe tool. This method also works on devices that have been jailbroken previously using either the Sprint or Spirit methods, which lose the jailbreak status if the device is restarted. Once JailbreakMe has been used, the iPod Touch will remain jailbroken even after it has been restarted.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the Safari Web browser on your iPod Touch by tapping its icon on the home screen.

    • 2

      Navigate to the JailbreakMe.com website.

    • 3

Tap the green "Install" button to download the Cydia application to your iPod Touch and initiate the jailbreaking process.

    • 4

Launch Cydia once the app is installed. Tap the "Complete Upgrade" button in the pop-up dialog box. The latest version of Cydia is downloaded and the iPod Touch restarts to complete the jailbreaking process.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once your iPod Touch has been jailbroken using JailbreakMe, you can restart it without losing the jailbreak. Restarting an iPod Touch that was jailbroken using Sprint or Spirit will require that you jailbreak the device again.

  • All iPod Touch devices can be jailbroken using JailbreakMe as long as they are running version 4.3.3 or lower of the iOS operating system.

  • If you restore or update your iPod Touch through iTunes, it will lose its jailbreak status.
