1
Sweep the floor with a broom or vacuum it with a vacuum cleaner with a hardwood attachment. Before you can clean the floor and get it to shine, you first need to remove any surface dirt and debris.
-
2
Mix 1 gallon of water with either 1 cup of distilled white vinegar or 1/2 cup of ammonia in a large bucket.

-
3
Dip the mop in the water and vinegar or ammonia mixture and thoroughly wring it out so it is only damp. Too much moisture can damage the flooring. Mop the entire surface of the floor with the mixture. One benefit of using this mixture is that it not only disinfects the floor, but it also creates a shine to the surface without leaving streaks like some store-bought products.

4
Allow the floor to air dry.
