How to Make a PVC Guitar Rack
Owning multiple guitars can present a few logistical challenges, especially if you enjoy playing each equally. Making your own guitar rack out of PVC pipes and fittings can be a solution, offering you easy access to your instruments while saving money over buying a guitar rack, which can cost up to $100.

- 3/4 inch PVC T-joints
- PVC 3-way elbow joints
- Insulation pipe foam

1
Measure and cut four 25-inch PVC sections, four 20-inch PVC sections, four 6-inch sections and one 14-inch sections. Lay out all of the pieces in organized piles so that the PVC pipe sections are grouped together.
-
2
Assemble the frame of the guitar stand by inserting each of the 25-inch sections, which are your uprights, into three-way joints. The 25-inch uprights will form a vertical frame which connects to the bottom frame sections. Connect the back right upright to the back, left upright by inserting a 20-inch section between them. Connect the front, right upright to the front, left upright, inserting a 20-inch section between them as well.

Join two 6-inch pipe sections to a T-joint so that the cross-bar of the "T" is composed of the two 6-inch sections to assemble the rest of the bottom frame of the guitar stand . Insert the newly formed 12-inch pipe section with a T-joint in the middle between one set of front and back uprights. The 12-inch pipe section should fit into the 3-way joints at the bottom of the frame where the 25-inch pipe sections are coming down to the floor. Repeat the assembling and inserting of the T-joint on the opposite side of the guitar rack.

4
Insert another 20-inch pipe section between the T-joints on the left and right side of the guitar rack.
-
5
Insert elbow joints on the front uprights, facing toward the back uprights. Place 3-way joints on top of the back set of uprights. Insert 14-inch pipe sections into the elbow joints, joining with the 3-way joints, connecting the back and front uprights. Insert a 20-inch pipe section between the back set of uprights.
-
6
Drill holes into the top most 20-inch pipe section where the guitar neck rests will be inserted. The hole should match the width of the stem from the neck rest, approximately 1/8 inch. Screw in the guitar neck rests, spaced evenly across the top bar of the frame, which should accommodate three guitars.
-
7
Double-check to make sure that the frame's dimensions work for your guitars. Disassemble the frame and reassemble it using spray-on cement glue to form a bond between all pipes and joints.
-
8
Wrap a thin layer of protective foam or bubble wrap around the PVC pipe sections on the bottom part of the guitar rack, securing the foam or bubble wrap with glue. Glue in the neck rests. Add end caps to the exposed ends of PVC pipes.
