How to Monogram Initials on an Embroidery Machine

How to Monogram Initials on an Embroidery Machine thumbnail
Embroidery machines are sewing machines with added, pre-programmed embroidery options.

Adding a monogram to a plain towel, pillowcase, shirt or blazer adds a customized touch. An embroidery machine allows you to monogram items at home with any choice of color. Such machines come pre-programmed with letters so you do not have to outsource your embroidery to a professional or embroider the initials by hand. Your only decisions are what to embroider and what color thread you want your initials to be.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your embroidery machine and thread it with the thread of your choice. This process varies by machine model and manufacturer; refer to your owner's manual for guidance.

    • 2

Press "Menu" on the embroidery machine's touch screen. Press "Stitch Creator." Select the initials you wish to use, in order, for your monogram. Press "Done."

    • 3

Arrange the item you wish to embroider under the pressure foot so the needle is above the point where you want the uppermost left corner of the monogram to be. Drop the pressure foot so the fabric is held firmly under it.

    • 4

Press down on the foot pedal gently at first until you find a speed you are comfortable with. Use your hands to keep the fabric from bunching or moving while the machine embroiders the initials.

    • 5

Raise the foot pedal when the machine has finished embroidering the initials. Pull the fabric out and cut the threads linking it to the bobbin and needle. Cut the thread close to the embroidery so there are no stray threads. Turn off the machine.
