Instructions

    • 1

Cut out and press your panty pattern. Most panty patterns have five parts: two side pieces, a back piece, a crotch piece and a middle front piece.

    • 2

Lay the handkerchief out flat with the wrong side facing up. Pin the panty pieces to the handkerchief. Arrange the pattern pieces as closely as possible so you can fit them all on the handkerchief, then cut out all the pieces and remove the pattern.

    • 3

Place the crotch pattern piece onto the wrong side of the thin cotton cloth. Pin it in place and cut it out.

    • 4

Pin the two side panels on either side of the front panel lengthwise, with a 3/8-inch seam. Sew these each of the side panels to the front panel on the wrong side of the fabric.

    • 5

Place the cotton crotch piece on top of the wrong side of the handkerchief crotch piece and align them. Pin them to the front panel so that the cotton is touching the wrong side of the front panel fabric. Sew this in place with a 3/8-inch seam.

    • 6

Pin the bottom of the back panel to the crotch piece, then sew these two pieces together with a 3/8-inch seam. Then pin and sew each side of the top of the back piece to each of the side panels.

    • 7

Fold and press a 1/4-inch hem along the waist of the panties, then sew it in place using a zigzag stitch on the wrong side of the fabric. Cut the elastic to the length of your waist. Thread the elastic through a large needle, then pass it through the 1/4-inch seam at the top of the panties. Pin the open ends of the seam, then sew them in place.

    • 8

Pin and sew a 3/8-inch hem along each of the leg holes and the side crotch of the panties. This will give your panties a finished look while securing the cotton crotch piece in place.
