Comb beach sand for pieces of vibrant sea glass.

A simple way to give any room in your home coastal charm is by hanging a handmade sea glass wreath. Sea glass is formed when bits of bottles and other glass items are tumbled and smoothed by ocean or lake waves. You can find sea glass in a variety of colors, such as turquoise and green. When making the beach-inspired wreath, use sea glass gathered on your last family vacation or buy it at a craft store.

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse natural sea glass in water to remove any salt or debris. Place the pieces of glass on a towel and allow them to air dry.

    • 2

Choose a 12- or 8-inch polystyrene wreath base depending on how many pieces of sea glass you have. Use approximately 150 1-inch pieces of sea glass to make a 12-inch wreath, and 70 1-inch pieces to create an 8-inch wreath.

    • 3

Wrap a wide, turquoise or green satin ribbon around the wreath base, slightly overlapping the edges. Secure the end of the ribbon with a bit of hot glue.

    • 4

Apply a dab of hot glue to the flattest portion of a piece of sea glass. Press the sea glass onto the ribbon-wrapped wreath base to create a secure hold.

    • 5

Continue gluing the sea glass pieces onto the wreath base in a random pattern, until the entire front surface including the inside ring is covered. Glue pieces of sea glass to each other to create a full-looking wreath and to fill in any gaps.

    • 6

Tie another wide turquoise or green satin ribbon through the wreath and knot it into a loop for hanging.
