How to Figure Out Your Wedding Palette
Selecting a color palette for your wedding is one of the critical first steps in planning the event. It is the most significant component in the aesthetic of the wedding, because color is so effective at evoking emotions and conveying the personality of the celebrated couple. The color palette may consist of two to five hues that the couple chooses according to several key factors. Above all else, the colors should create an aesthetic that represents the marrying couple faithfully.

1
Select colors that reflect the season of the wedding. The season dictates color selection more than almost any other factor. Spring weddings generally feature pastel palettes; summer events feature bright, vivid palettes; autumn weddings feature rich, warm palettes; and winter celebrations have dark jewel-toned palettes or an abundance of white. Though the season is a significant factor in color selection, your palette should represent your personality first and foremost, regardless of season.

Choose colors that reflect the event setting. For a beach wedding, soft blues, beiges, orange or green are fitting selections. Tropical weddings are well-suited to bright, vibrant colors like fuchsia, yellow, orange and emerald green. Urban weddings inspire palettes of black, gray and white to reflect the sleek look of city architecture. Snowy weddings are best celebrated with white palettes that include blues or dark red as a highlight.

Choose colors based simply on your favorite colors. For example, if you adore pink, you are likely to select pink flowers, decor and bridesmaids' dresses anyway. Monochromatic palettes are stunning if you execute them properly. The key to making it successful is employing a range of light and dark versions of the color. If your favorite color is purple, choose an all-purple palette of lavender, violet, royal purple and plum.

4
Base your selections on a wedding element that is significant. If you want to use a favorite flower in the decor, build the color palette around that color, since you know already you want to include it. If you want to celebrate your Irish heritage, make green the featured shade in the palette. Similarly, if your partner's blue eyes are what you first noticed when you met, incorporate blue throughout your wedding.

5
Choose colors that symbolically match the personality you want the wedding to have. Deep, dark reds, burgundy and even black convey a sense of passion. Light pink and yellow together evoke youthful playfulness. Complementary palettes, which feature opposite colors, create vivacity and drama. For example, blue and orange or purple and yellow both make for striking color pairs. Black and white impart a sophisticated appeal. Metallic colors add a luxurious, glamorous quality to an event.
