How to Dress Business Casual for Photos

How to Dress Business Casual for Photos thumbnail
Business casual calls for tan or black pants, or a knee-length skirt.

Business casual seems to vary from person to person. When you dress incorrectly for an interview or event, you can usually forget the mistake. If you dress incorrectly for a business casual photo session, however, the mistake will be remembered for a long time – and likely be shared on Facebook and other social media sites. Make sure you arrive at the photo shoot wearing true business casual.

Instructions

    • 1

Ask the person directing the photo shoot if you should wear specific colors or types of clothing. For example, men may need to wear similar pants and shirts.

    • 2

Wear a solid color, button-up top. Men can substitute polo shirts if the pictures are on the less-formal business casual end. Women can wear sweaters over button-up shirts but should never show cleavage.

    • 3

Match the bottom to the top. Choose black or khaki pants that work with the top. For example, choose khaki pants with a black polo shirt to avoid wearing solid colors. Pants are appropriate for both sexes. Women also may wear black, gray, brown or khaki skirts that extend to or past the knees.

    • 4

Complement with black leather shoes and black socks or hose. Wear a black leather belt. Men should forgo ties, unless instructed otherwise.

    • 5

Iron clothes the morning of the photo shoot to remove wrinkles and reinforce seams. Polish shoes. Dress as close to the photo shoot as possible.

    • 6

Shave or groom facial hair. Clip nails and remove any dirt from underneath. Observe hygiene rules as if you were attending a job interview.
