DIY Wedding Celebration Flags
Every couple wants to celebrate their wedding in a way that expresses their personal style, from the wedding bouquets to the icing on the cake. One cute option for allowing guests to get in on the celebration is to make little flags for them to hold while the newlyweds make their grand entrance or exit. These individual festive items can double as wedding favors and, if you don't want to custom order them, they are not difficult to make at home.
Things You'll Need
- Wooden dowels
- Wire cutters or a small saw
- Sandpaper (optional)
- Construction paper or other heavy paper in your desired colors
- Computer and printer
- Scissors
- Craft glue

1
Design your flag, keeping in mind the mood you want to convey. Estimate how many flags you will need. Acquire enough wooden dowels approximately 1/8 inch thick so that you have one for each guest, plus a few in case you make mistakes.
-
2
Cut the wooden dowels to your desired length using wire cutters or a small saw. Snip quickly so the dowels will not splinter or crack. Sand the rough edges on the ends if you desire.

3
Divide a page into segments in a document using any word processing software. Make only two segments if you want larger flags, or make up to 10 for smaller flags. Choose a font that coordinates with the sentiment you are presenting on the flag. Type your celebratory message into half of the segments in the document, ensuring that the words are aligned the way you would like. Type your names and the date of your wedding into the other half of the compartments to use as the backs of the flags. Print a test page, make any adjustments, and then print as many pages as you will need to make your flags.

4
Cut out each flag, being sure to remove the part of the paper with the dividing lines so the flags look neater.
-
5
Lay one flag face down and place a dowel along the right-hand edge. Dab glue on the dowel and curl the construction paper over it. Repeat the process for the backside of the flag, adding dabs of glue along all of the edges of the flag, to adhere the back and front together.

Tips & Warnings
Consider using toothpicks as “poles” for tiny flags to put on favors or at table settings, or using striped straws as the poles for more color. Use only small strips of paper for the flag portion if using toothpicks as the pole; dividing a word processing document into as many as 24 compartments will make appropriately sized flags.
Use several different phrases on the flags, so they have some variety. Make some saying, “Hooray!” and some saying, “Congratulations!”
