How to Crochet a Hexagon Motif
The hexagon motif comes in a wide variety of crochet patterns and designs, which can look overwhelming for any crochet novice. Crochet a simple hexagon motif with a no-fuss six-point granny square design. Like the granny square, the hexagon motif makes afghans, scarves, sweaters and even hats, because of the ease of joining them together.

Tie a slipknot into the yarn, insert the crochet hook through the loop and pull the yarn taut around the hook. Crochet one chain stitch by yarning over the hook and pull through the loop on the hook. Crochet two more chain stitches for a total of three. Join to the furthest chain from the hook with a slip stitch. Crochet a slip stitch by inserting the hook into the stitch, yarn over, pull through the stitch and the loop on the hook.

Crochet three chain stitches. These three chain stitches will count as one double crochet stitch at the beginning of each new round. Crochet two double crochet stitches into the loop. Crochet a double crochet by yarning over, insert the hook through the stitch, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over and pull through the last two loops on the hook. Crochet three chain stitches. Crochet three double crochet stitches into the loop. Repeat the three chain stitches and three double crochet until you have six sets around the loop. Crochet three chain stitches. Join to the top chain stitch of the first chain three which counts as one double crochet.

Crochet three double crochet into the same chain three stitches space. Crochet one chain stitch. Crochet three double crochet stitches into the next chain three stitches space, chain three and crochet three double crochet stitches in the same chain three stitches space. Continue this pattern until you have crocheted all the way around this round of crochet, end with by crocheting one chain stitch. Join tighter with the top of the chain three which counts as one double crochet stitch at the beginning of the round.

Crochet three chain stitches and turn the work. Crochet three double crochet, three chain stitches and three double crochet stitches into the first chain three stitches space. Crochet one chain stitch. Crochet three double crochet into the first chain one stitch space. Crochet one chain stitch. Cut the yarn off, leaving 3 inches of yarn remaining. Pull the end of the yard through the last loop on the hook and pull taut.
