Removing the Outer Shell of an Xbox

The Xbox was Microsoft's first hardware entry in the home video game console space. It was praised for the quality of its build, graphics and audio, as compared to its competitors -- the Nintendo GameCube and the PlayStation 2. As with most home video game consoles, opening up the system voids the warranty. But if yours has already expired, it's simple to remove the outer casing.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx #20 screwdriver
  • Hobby or precision knife

Instructions

    • 1

Turn over your Xbox system, and carefully remove the four rubber feet from the corners. Peel back the stickers with the UPC code and "Xbox Video Game System" on them.

    • 2

Use your Torx screwdriver to remove the six identical screws: two under the stickers and one in each corner. Set them aside in a container.

    • 3

Turn the system back over, and hold it by the sides. Gently shake the system to loosen the case. Let gravity separate the two halves of the case, rather than forcibly prying them apart.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use a Phillips or flat-head screwdriver, as this will strip the screws and make them extremely difficult to extract.
