DIY Moleskin Pen

Make any pen more comfortable to use with moleskin.

If you write with a pen all day, your fingers are mostly likely sore when you’re done. Pens with a lot of cushioning and gel may be more comfortable, but they also are a lot more expensive. Instead of putting yourself through the agonizing pain, blisters and discomfort, you can easily make your own moleskin pen. Moleskin is a flexible fabric commonly used for feet that can be used on your pen to make your writing experience more enjoyable.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and the diameter of your pen. Moleskin comes in shapes or squares that are already cut. You will need to cut the moleskin to fit the shape of your pen. With your measurements, determine which is the best way to cut the moleskin. The fewer pieces you have the better. Remember you only need to go around the bottom of the pen.

    • 2

Grab your pen in your hand and write. Observe where you handle the pen at, and where your fingers move while you are writing. Feel your hand to determine where the soreness is and where that part rests on the pen. This is where the moleskin will need to go.

    • 3

Place the moleskin on a hard surface with the fabric side down. Peel the adhesive off the moleskin. Put the pen on the very edge of one side of the moleskin and roll it toward the other side with the moleskin attached. This should be similar to rolling a sleeping bag. Cut off any additional moleskin.

    • 4

Repeat this pattern with as many pens as you need to. Do as many as you can at once so you don't run out of pens. If the moleskin wears down before the pen runs out of ink, remove the moleskin from the pen and apply a new piece.

Tips & Warnings

  • Larger-diameter pens are easier to use moleskin on.
