Connect your Sylvania SMPK8854B MP3 player to your computer using the USB cable if it's not turning on. The device starts to charge and displays the battery level on the screen.

Move the "Power on/off" switch from the "Hold" position if you're unable to operate the buttons.

Double-click "Setting" on your player's main menu and click "System Setup" if you see a messy and unusual code on the screen. Click "1" to view and change the language settings.

Locate the "Reset" button under your MP3 player and press it with a pointed object to restore the default settings without deleting previously saved music files.

Update your MP3 player's firmware if it's not functioning well. To do so, connect your player to your computer, then insert the installation CD into the CD/DVD drive on your computer.

Double-click the "setup.exe" file on the disc and click "Open." Select the firmware file, and click "Update" to start the firmware upgrade process. You should see a confirmation message when the process completes.
