How to Make Crochet Headbands With Flowers for a Baby

Crochet a stylish flowered headband for a favorite baby.

Crochet a simple headband with a flower if your favorite baby's best outfit needs accessorizing. A decorative headband completes a young miss' ensemble without driving her to distraction the way a baby hat sometimes does. Crafty aunts, mothers, grandmothers and others will be able to make a headband and flower in an evening. Enclose a loop of narrow elastic with crocheted stitches made of a soft acrylic yarn that won't chafe a baby's tender scalp. Once you've made the first one, stitch several more headbands to coordinate with Miss Baby's entire wardrobe.

Instructions

  1. Headband

    • 1

Overlap the ends of the 1/8-inch elastic. Sew the ends together with the sewing needle and thread to form a ring.

    • 2

Work single crochets around the elastic ring using the yarn and the crochet hook. You will make approximately 100 stitches but an exact stitch count is not necessary

    • 3

Use a slip stitch to fasten the first and last single crochet stitches together. Chain three stitches.

    • 4

Make a single crochet in the first stitch. Work three chain stitches. Repeat these two steps around the headband. Cut the yarn with the scissors and fasten it.

    Flower

    • 5

Chain four stitches using the yarn and crochet hook. Make a slip stitch into the first chain to form the stitches into a ring. Chain three stitches, then make two double crochets into the ring. Chain two stitches.

    • 6

Work three double crochet stitches into the ring and chain two stitches. Do this three times. Connect the last stitch of the round to the first stitch using a slip stitch.

    • 7

Chain one stitch to begin the next round. Work a half double crochet, then a double crochet, followed by a treble crochet, another double crochet, a second half double crochet and another slip stitch into the next stitch. You have made the first flower petal.

    • 8

Slip stitch into the next two chain stitches from the previous row. Make six more petals like the first one. Use a slip stitch to connect the last stitch of the round with the first one. Cut the yarn with the scissors and fasten it.

    • 9

Position the flower at the overlap point of the elastic. Sew the flower to the headband using the blunt needle and a length of yarn.
