How to Restore Cultured Marble With Gel-Gloss

How to Restore Cultured Marble With Gel-Gloss thumbnail
Gel Gloss is not made to be used on cultured marble that was not originally polished.

Cultured marble is a soft, resin based product made of polymers and crushed marble. It can be formed into shower surrounds, pans or countertops and is frequently given a high gloss finish at the factory. This finish is produced by a gel coat, a soft liquid coating that dries in place to a high shine. If this coating becomes damaged, scratched or removed, restore it by applying a coating of the product Gel-Gloss, from TR Industries, to its surface. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the surface of the cultured marble using a non-abrasive, liquid bathroom cleaner. Spray the cleaner on and wipe the surface of the cultured marble with a sponge until clean and any debris or build up has been removed. Dry the cultured marble with a soft cloth.

    • 2

Pour a small amount of Gel-Gloss out either directly onto a bathroom vanity or shower pan, or onto a soft cloth if using it on a shower surround.

    • 3

Work the Gel-Gloss into the cultured marble using a circular motion. This will polish the surface, while leaving a coating of carnauba wax to restore the sheen of the gel coat. The surface appears wet as you work; stand off to one side and look for dry or dull areas to ensure even application.

    • 4

Allow the product to dry to a haze overnight. Do not use the cultured marble or touch it during this time; the Gel-Gloss becomes tacky as it dries and any disturbance leaves behind a mark in the finish.

    • 5

Buff to a shine with a soft cloth.
