DIY Sequin Pillow

DIY Sequin Pillow thumbnail
Add some bling to your home with a sequined pillow.

Sequined pillows add a stylish touch to your bedroom, living room or any other room in your house. Pick sequin colors that match the other decorations in your home or pick an unexpected color that adds one bright pop of color to the room. Sewing sequins on by hand takes quite a bit of time, but using fabric glue speeds up the process. Make the pillow as you would any other pillow, but glue the sequins on for a pillow that looks like it came from a high-class store.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the fabric in half and cut along the edge, creating two pieces. Determine the size of your pillow and mark the width and length on the fabric, adding 1 inch to all sides for the seams. Cut the fabric to those dimensions.

    • 2

Place one piece of fabric down with the decorated side facing up and set the other piece on top with the decorative side facing down. Measure 1 inch from the edge of the fabric and mark with a sewing pin. Move around the pillow, placing more pins into the fabric and closing the pieces together.

    • 3

Stitch the pillow closed on the sewing machine with a topstitch, leaving a 3-inch gap on one side. Remove the pins as you sew. Turn the pillow inside out by pushing your hand inside and pulling the fabric out. Lightly iron the pillow with an iron on a low setting, smoothing out any wrinkles in the fabric.

    • 4

Tear off small pieces of the pillow stuffing and push through the open edge of the pillow. Add as much stuffing as you want or need. Shake the pillow roughly, pushing the filling around on the inside. Stitch the open end shut with a needle and thread, using any stitch you desire.

    • 5

Pour the sequins on a paper plate near the pillow. Place a dot of fabric glue on the pillow where you want a sequin. Dip the pencil onto the paper plate, picking up a sequin with the cup side facing down. Gently dab the sequin onto the glue. Repeat the process for the other sequins.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to hide the tiny hole in the center of the sequin, then cover the hole with glitter craft glue, which mimics the shiny surface of the sequins.
