Keep laundry from stacking up and repair your washer yourself.

Spending almost an hour and a half doing each load of laundry is probably enough time in the laundry room for most people. However, when your Maytag washing machine starts to act up, it increases the amount of time you spend in the laundry room, especially if you have to wash everything out by hand. Fortunately, there are many issues you can diagnose and fix by yourself. When you take the initiative to fix the problem, rather than call the repair shop, you save time and money. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the power supply. Ensure the washer is plugged into the wall socket. Check the fuse box or circuit breaker for the house. If the washer doesn’t have a power supply, it won’t work.

    • 2

Check the load. Redistribute the load if it is bunched into one area. If the machine is off balance, it is unable to complete its cycle. Add more items if the washer is under-loaded to avoid a load that can be easily unbalanced.

    • 3

Examine the fill hoses. Remove kinks. Clean the screen and replace the gasket in the fill hose. Replace damaged or worn hoses. Most manufacturers recommend changing the hoses every 5 years. Damaged hoses leak, and restricted water flow prevents the machine from filling up with water with the correct temperature.

    • 4

Check the faucets. Ensure both faucets are turned on completely; otherwise, the water temperature won’t be right.

    • 5

Investigate the drain hose. Remove kinks and blockages. Ensure the hose is seated in the drainpipe properly. Blocked or improperly seated pipes can leak or prevent the washer from draining.

    • 6

Check the door. Ensure the door closes completely. The washer can’t complete its cycle if the door is open.

    • 7

Check the control buttons. Ensure that you've set the cycle and temperature properly for the size of the load and the items you are washing. Improper washing and damage to clothes may result if the controls aren’t set properly.

    • 8

Check the detergent. Ensure you are using the amount of detergent recommended by the manufacturer. If there are too many suds, the washer will automatically begin a suds cycle to remove them, continuing the original cycle when it's finished. Consider switching to a high-efficiency detergent.
