How to Fix a Ripped Stitch on a Patch
A patch is often sewn over clothing to cover up a large hole that is too big to be stitched back together. Patches can match the clothing they are on, or be completely different. They come in various shapes and sizes to fit your individual need. Over time, it is possible for the patch itself to become damaged and have a ripped stitch. If you have a patch with a ripped stitch, you can repair it just like you would repair any other ripped stitch on clothing. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Lay out the piece of clothing where the patch is ripped on a flat surface that is suitable for working. Turn it inside out so the ripped seams are visible on the back of the patch. Locate the patch and find the stitch that is ripped and needs fixed.
-
2
Cut off and trim any loose threads from the back of the patch where it is ripped with a pair of scissors. Push down on the patch to clearly expose the seam where you will be repairing the stitch and cut off any excess stitching that remains.

3
Mark the line on the back of the patch where you will be repairing the stitch. Draw a small line with a pen so it is clearly visible. Pin the patch down so it does not move when you are stitching it up. Stick pins through the patch at each corner. This will prevent it from sliding around.

4
Match the color of the thread to the patch, or use any color you desire. Tie the thread to a needle and begin threading it through, starting at the top of the patch at the pen mark where the stitching is missing. Pull the needle in one side and out the other.
-
5
Move down the patch, threading in one end and out the other until you reach the bottom and a thread has been added where the old one was removed. Trim off the excess thread with scissors. Inspect both sides of the patch to verify it is complete on the outside.
