Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance around the head where you want to wear the headband. Subtract 2 inches from this measurement -- this is the size you must make the headband.

    • 2

Make a slipstitch with the crochet thread and place the slipstitch onto the crochet hook. Chain five stitches and turn your work.

    • 3

Crochet a double crochet in the third chain from the crochet hook and in the next two chains. Chain two stitches and turn your work.

    • 4

Crochet two double crochets across and chain two more stitches. Repeat this process until the crocheting measures the length you determined in Step 1.

    • 5

Cut the crochet thread to leave a 4-inch tail. Pull the tail all the way through the remaining loop on the hook and make a tight knot. Thread the end of the tail through the needle and insert the needle through at least five crochet stitches to bury the tail. Clip off the excess thread. Bury the thread at the other end of the piece using the same technique.

    • 6

Thread the needle with a 12-inch length of crochet thread and tie a knot in the end of the thread.

    • 7

Cut a 3-inch length of elastic and insert one end through the stitches on one end of the crocheted piece. Fold over the end of the elastic at the 1/2-inch mark and stitch the fold with tiny stitches to secure it. Insert the other end of the elastic through the other end of the crocheted piece and secure it using the same technique.

Tips & Warnings

  • Embellish the headband by clipping a flower or ribbon barrette to the top of the headband.
