A compass can be used to draw geometric shapes.

Seeing a compass might induce shivers due to memories of high school geometry class, but you can use a compass to make an intricate geometric design resembling a flower. A compass consists of a fixed point with a swivel mechanism and a pencil used to draw arcs and circles. With the clever use of arcs, you can create flower designs for home decoration or just for the sake of drawing.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your compass to the radius you want your circle to be. Place the point of the compass in the center of the page and move the pencil around the central point until you have an unbroken circle.

    • 2

Place the point of the compass anywhere along the edge of the circle and draw an arc from one point on the circle through the center and to another point.

    • 3

Place the compass point at one arc's endpoint and draw another arc. Repeat this process as many times as you like. If you have enough space on the page, you can extend the arcs to full circles to create an intricate, flower-like design known as "The Flower of Life."
