How to Make a Valentine's Day Teddy Bear Out of Construction Paper

Making a teddy bear out of construction paper for Valentine's Day is wonderful and creative for children. Use this craft in a preschool or in kindergarten for the children to give to their parents or guardians, or do it at home with your own children. This craft can be done with varying degrees of independence for the children, as they can create their own body parts on the bear or use premade parts.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a template so that younger children can complete this craft. You will need to draw one larger circle for the head, two smaller circles for the feet and two rectangles with rounded edges for the arms. The arms should be bigger than the feet.

    • 2

Create the bear's face by drawing two circles just above the middle of his face for the eyes. Fill them in with two smaller circles. Draw an oval just underneath the eyes. Inside of the oval, draw a nose close to the eyes by making a simple circle. Draw a smile an inch underneath the nose and then a line connecting the smile in the middle to the nose. Older children will be able to do this themselves, while you will need to do this for younger children.

    • 3

Make ears by cutting out two circles and gluing them to the bear's head.

    • 4

Run the bear's head, hands and feet through a copy machine, giving one to each child. The bear's head should be copied onto construction paper.

    • 5

Have the children use safety scissors to cut out squares about 4 inches long and 4 inches wide. Each child may choose the color he prefers.

    • 6

Hand out the templates to each child. Ask the children to glue the head to the top of the construction paper square.

    • 7

Ask the children to glue the circles that represent the feet to the bottom of the square.

    • 8

Have children glue the arms to the back of the square, one on either side. They will then fold the arms inward so that it conceals the message written inside.

    • 9

Tell the children to create a Valentine's Day message on the square and decorate the hands and feet and bear's face, if desired.
