How to Hide the Vertical Scrollbar in Firefox

The scrollbar has been around since the early days of the graphical user interface, and although it generally is a useful feature, you do not always need it. On shorter Web pages, the vertical scrollbar does not serve any purpose and takes up valuable screen space. However, if you make some changes to the userContent.css file in the Firefox browser, you can hide the vertical scrollbar when you do not need it.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Windows Explorer by clicking the "Windows Explorer" icon on the bottom of your screen. You can also right-click on the "Start" button and select "Windows Explorer."

    • 2

Browse to "Users/Admin/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/i46rmrso.default/Chrome." You can also click the "Start" button and type "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles" in the "Search" field. From there, open the "i46rmrso.default" and "Chrome" files.

    • 3

Open the "userChrome-example.css" file in a text editor, such as Notepad.

    • 4

Overwrite the text in the file with the following, omitting the quotation marks:
      "html { overflow-y: auto !important;}".

    • 5

Click "File" and "Save" to save the file.

    • 6

Save the file as "userContent.css" in the Chrome directory, which is the directory you are currently using. Open Firefox. Your vertical scrollbar will only appear on pages when it is necessary.
