How to Make Fake Black Stains on Teeth
Black tooth staining is an effective way to make your teeth look decayed for a costume. With these methods, you can also black out an entire tooth, hiding it completely. Options include black tooth enamel or black tooth wax. While wax lasts longer, enamel may come off with saliva or abrasion. Both are equally easy to apply and remove so choose based on price and personal preference.
Things You'll Need
- Tooth enamel or tooth wax
- Tissue
- Alcohol (for tooth enamel method)
- Toothpick (for tooth wax method)
Instructions

Black Tooth Enamel
-
1
Run a tissue over the tooth you want to blacken, drying the tooth. Shake your bottle of tooth enamel and unscrew the lid.
-
2
Apply the enamel with the applicator brush on the inside of the lid. For black stains, focus on a specific spot on the tooth. Paint the entire tooth black to make it look like it is missing.
-
-
3
Give the enamel about 30 seconds to fully dry, leaving your mouth open and the tooth exposed. Be careful not to let any part of your mouth or any saliva touch the tooth while it is drying.
-
4
Apply a small amount of alcohol to a tissue and wipe the tooth clean to remove the enamel. Clean any remaining black by brushing your teeth.
Black Tooth Wax
-
5
Dry your tooth using a tissue. Flatten out a small piece of tooth wax about the size of the tooth you want to black out. Alternately, use a smaller piece to create a black spot instead of blacking out the whole tooth.
-
6
Press the wax onto the tooth firmly. Use a toothpick to form the wax or scrape the edges away to get the wax off of other teeth.
-
7
Lick the wax to make it stick better. Remove the wax by peeling it off with your fingers or a toothpick. Brush afterward to remove any black residue.
