How to Knit a Circle Headband

How to Knit a Circle Headband thumbnail
An absorbent headband is a vital accessory for many runners.

Headbands have been a popular accessory for at least the past 50 years. Headbands can be used to keep perspiration from rolling down your forehead or to hold back your bangs. Knitting your own headbands allows you to create them in the colors you want at a fraction of the price of buying them. The key to knitting a headband is to work in single ribbing. This will give your headband maximum elasticity for a snug fit.

Instructions

    • 1

      Cast on eight stitches.

    • 2

Knit in single ribbing until the headband measures slightly less than the circumference of the person's head that will wear it. It should fit snugly. Do not bind off.

    • 3

Fold the headband, bringing the cast-on row in front of the live stitches still on the needle. Line them up. You will knit the cast-on row and the live row together to connect them as you bind off.

    • 4

Using the free needle, enter the right-side of the first stitch on the cast-on row and the first live stitch. Knit the two stitches together as one. Repeat once. You should now have two stitches on your right needle.

    • 5

Cast off the first stitch on the right needle.

    • 6

Continue knitting the cast-on row and live row together and casting off stitches until only one stitch remains.

    • 7

Cut the working yarn leaving an extra 6 inches and loop the end of the yarn through the final stitch, removing it from the needle.

    • 8

Weave the extra yarn into several stitches with a tapestry needle to secure it. Cut excess yarn.
