Following a systematic process of elimination can solve many washer problems.

Most people probably don’t give much thought to their washing machine until it fails to work properly. Some problems, such as an unusual noise, pose a mere annoyance -- though it could be a sign of an underlying mechanical problem about to burst on the scene. If the washer fails to start, however, the problem is one that requires immediate attention. Most problems require only a minor adjustment. Some basic troubleshooting with this Frigidaire model may be all that is necessary to correct a problem and can save you the time and expense of hiring a service professional. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Unusual Noises

    • 1

Inspect the wash basin for loose coins, safety pins or other loose objects and remove these items.

    • 2

Turn items with buckles, metal buttons and other hard pieces inside out before loading the washer.

    • 3

Stop the wash cycle and rearrange the items if they have gathered against one side of the wash basin.

    • 4

Adjust the washer’s leveling feet if you can rock the washer back and forth. A single leveling foot is located under each corner of the washer. Turning a leg clockwise will lower that corner, while turning a leg counterclockwise will raise that corner. Adjust the legs so that each leg rests firmly against the floor.

    • 5

Avoid overloading the washer if it produces a squealing sound or a burnt odor, which indicates that the drive belt within the washer is slipping.

    Washer Does Not Turn On

    • 6

Ensure that the washer’s power cord is plugged firmly into a working wall outlet.

    • 7

Flip a tripped circuit breaker back to the “On” position. The circuit breakers are located within the home’s circuit breaker box.

    • 8

Ensure that the water supply lines located behind the washer are turned on by twisting the integral handles to the extreme counterclockwise position.

    • 9

Ensure that the indicator on the cycle selection knob is positioned directly over the desired cycle before pulling the handle.

    • 10

Allow the washer to cool for at least 30 minutes if the problem persists. As a safety precaution, the washer will automatically turn off if its motor overheats. If the washer stopped suddenly on its own, it will automatically restart once its motor cools sufficiently.
