How to Install a Water Filter on a KitchenAid Refrigerator
KitchenAid refrigerators equipped with a water dispenser and ice maker run the water through a filter system to improve taste and remove impurities. The company advises to replace the filter cartridge twice a year. This basic maintenance takes less than 15 minutes. Buy a replacement filter from KitchenAid, or an appliance store. Check the filter display on the front control panel. If it reads 10 percent or less, change the filter.

Press the eject button in the center of the front grill to release the filter. Turn the cap on the end of the filter counterclockwise and pull the entire assembly out of the compartment.

Unscrew the cap and discard the old filter.

Wipe up any spilled water with the towel.

Remove the safety seal from the opening on the new filter and screw on the cap removed from the old filter in Step 3.

Insert the filter assembly into the compartment as far as it will go, and then turn clockwise and press until it clicks into position.

Press the plastic cup against the lever for the water dispenser. Fill and drain the cup for five minutes to force out any air trapped in the pipe and run clean water through the system.
