Soldering your wedding set does not allow you to wear them separately.

After getting married, some women choose to wear both their wedding band and their engagement ring together. Some rings are designed to be worn together and don't look quite right separately. However, if the rings are not held together or properly fitted, they may rub against each other causing excessive wear and tear. While some people choose to solder the rings together permanently, you can use alternatives to hold the rings together. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Wire ring guard
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Rubber ring sizer tube

Instructions

    • 1

Visit your local jeweler to have your rings properly sized. If the rings fit properly, they should not spin around on your finger or rub against each other excessively. A proper fit can preclude the need to solder the rings.

    • 2

Insert a wire ring guard inside the two rings where they rest on the inside of your hand. Hold the rings securely in place so they don't spin or separate while you attach the ring guard. With a pair of pliers, fold and pinch the metal tabs around the shanks of the rings to hold the two rings together. Use a ring guard that has tabs long enough to wrap around both ring shanks.

    • 3

Wrap a large rubber ring sizer tube around the two rings to hold them together, slipping the ring shanks through the slit in the rubber tube. These ring sizers are generally meant to make a larger ring fit your finger, but they also work to hold the rings together.

Tips & Warnings

  • Using a temporary solution allows you to wear just your wedding band if you prefer.

  • A temporary option for holding your rings together also gives you the freedom to choose how the two rings align with each other, which may differ from the intended design.
