Instructions

    • 1

Put on safety goggles. This will shield your eyes from any flying glass produced by the drilling process.

    • 2

Place your dinner plate on top of a folded towel. This will ensure that any debris produced by the drilling process is immediately caught.

    • 3

Locate the exact center of the dinner plate with a ruler or tape measure. Place a small piece of masking tape directly over the plate's center. Do this on both the front and back side of the plate.

    • 4

Create a secure base for your drill. Tape three paper plates together, then attach them to the front of your dinner plate with masking tape. Next, place a small block of wood directly over the previously marked center of the plate.

    • 5

Equip your electric drill with an extra-sharp drill head. Diamond-tipped drill heads work particularly well for this task.

    • 6

Turn your plate over. Sprinkle some cool water over the back side of the plate. This will prevent your drill from getting too hot. Secure the plate to the surface upon which you will be drilling with masking tape. Alternatively, you can hold the plate steady with a vice.

Drill a hole through the plate's center with an electric drill. Make sure to drill slowly and hold the plate steady to prevent any accidents. Drilling too quickly or forcefully is liable to shatter the plate, so take your time.
