How to Melt Window Ice With Vinegar

Prevent icy windows with a vinegar solution.

During the winter season, snow and ice accumulates on car windows and windshield wipers, posing a serious visibility problem. Those without the luxury of a garage must wake up early to scrape off ice and snow before driving anywhere in the morning. You can avoid this bothersome chore with an environmentally friendly, chemical-free vinegar defrosting solution. The acids in vinegar melt ice on your windows and prevent future buildup.

Things You'll Need

• White vinegar
• Bucket
• Paintbrush or paint roller

Instructions

1. Mix 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water in a bucket.

2. Coat your windows with a generous amount of vinegar solution, using a paintbrush or paint roller.

3. Repeat this process every night when freezing temperatures are expected.

Tips & Warnings

• Vinegar can kill grass and other plants. Cover nearby plants with plastic sheeting before applying vinegar to your car.
